Welcome Hardy H. Kim
Dear Members of Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church,

Rev. Hardy H. Kim headshotI am honored and excited to be called to the position of Head of Staff at Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church.

A second generation Korean-American, I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, with my parents as as infant. When I was ten years old my family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where my family found a solid foundation of community and stability in Korean immigrant churches.

After receiving a bachelor's degree in government, I enrolled in law school with the belief that a career in law would enable me to change society and express my faith by helping others. However, after serving a year as a Presbyterian Young Adult Volunteer in Mission in Belfast, Northern Ireland, I confirmed that my calling was not to a career in law, but in ministry. The joy I experienced and connections made in ministry convinced me that I needed a faith community to sustain me and ground me in my work.

Having learned about SVPC through the Mission Study Report and Ministry Information Form, I have a deep admiration for what you have already accomplished, and an overwhelming passion for being a part of what you will risk doing for God's people. I have great hopes of working together with you toward your vision of God's community in a part of our country where diversity and a transformed social fabric are not a future to be feared but a present reality to be embraced.

I look forward to getting to know each of you and working together in ministry.

Yours in Christ,
Hardy H. Kim

Hardy Kim's Experience...

Meet the Kim Family Banner

Meet the Kim Family photoHardy enjoys being outdoors, especially if he's able to go for a run in a beautiful setting; if he has to, he'll settle for cycling. He is committed to getting together with friends to cook, enjoy warm hospitality and lively conversation.

Hyunjung has a degree in fashion design, and currently works at the Goodman Theatre making high-quality period costumes. She has a steady hand and a knack for arts and crafts, and loves the comfort of home-cooked Korean food.

Jonah, a fifth grader, is a devoted sports fan (for Chicago teams as well as the Michigan Wolverines), plays soccer, practices taewkondo and loves video games—especially if he can beat his dad.

Haeil, a first grader, loves spending time with her friends, singing and dancing (especially to the music from "Hamilton"). She also plays soccer and is great at helping out in the kitchen.
