Mission and Service

As Christians we are taught that we are saved by the grace of God and not by our own efforts. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9). God’s love is freely given; one cannot earn it through acts of piety or service.

Yet Jesus clearly calls us to serve: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” (Matthew 25:36)

That is why we say we are “Rooted in Christ and Reaching out in Love.” In these words we recognize the simple truth that “faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” (James 2:17). It is the truth that only by trying to live out our faith in Christ by loving and serving others, as Jesus did, are we truly whole, truly blessed, and truly saved.

Please take some time to explore the many ways that you might join in as we seek to live out our lives of faith by serving others. You may find something already ongoing that piques your interest, or you have some other passion that stirs your heart and you’d like to start your own ministry. Either way, we can help.
