What's Going On

As a community we are called to move beyond the boundaries of our church walls to “Reach out in Love.” Through the years Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church has forged relationships with many organizations in our community to help serve those in need. Here are some opportunities to connect with some of these organizations through service.

Our Daily Bread Work day

Saturday, July 22, 9 a.m.–12 noon

Join us at Our Daily Bread with lunch together there afterwards. During our day of service we will perform jobs to help them clean and spruce up their facilities inside and out with tasks that encompass a range of abilities. Perhaps some kitchen cleaning, washing tables and chairs, painting, yard clean up and more! This is a family friendly event, so bring the kids along. ODB has served meals on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday without fail for over 33 years—that’s well over 1,000,000 meals—and we are thrilled to partner with them. Come join the team for the morning!

Our Daily Bread is hosted at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 231 Sunset Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086. We hope to see you there! For questions or more information, contact the church office at 408-739-1892.

Faith In Action Rotating Shelter

Each April we host the Faith In Action Rotating Shelter. There are opportunities to provide meals, shop, host and visit with our guests. Guests of the Rotating Shelter sign a contract agreeing to seek or maintain employment, to remain clean and sober, to build up their financial reserves and work toward housing. The goal is to help our guests move into permanent housing by the end of their stay. Since re-opening the shelter in March of 2012, Faith In Action has sheltered more than 207 men and moved 108 of them into permanent housing situations.

Faith In Action Rotating Shelter was established to meet a need to house the homeless in our community. When SVPC hosts, formerly homeless men move into our gym where they live from 8 p.m.—7 a.m. Faith In Action provides shelter, meals, shower facilities, case management, job counseling and other supportive services to motivated men willing to stay clean and sober, find employment and a permanent place to live. The church provides space for the guests to sleep, to store their belongings and an area where they can have their meals.

Anyone, any age, including children and youth, can volunteer to help. For more information or to help contact .

Sunnyvale House purchased by Habitat for HumanityHabitat for Humanity

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Affordable homes are built using a large amount of volunteer labor, donated funds and materials. Then the homes are sold at affordable prices to qualifying low-income families. Volunteers play a critical role in their programs, and are involved in every aspect of work. Contact for the next opportunity.

As you head out for your vacations, please remember to bring something back for the homeless; your hotel toiletries. Throughout the year the Mission & Service Ministry collects toiletries for distribution to the homeless. You may drop off items during the monthly food drive or at any time in the church mailroom (Bldg 200). If you aren’t traveling but would still like to help, pick up an extra tube of toothpaste, bar of soap or bottle of shampoo when you’re at the store. Donations are welcome any time of the year.

School Supplies Collection

Each summer we collect back-to-school supplies that are assembled into backpacks and donated to youth served by Sunnyvale Community Services and Refugee Ministries. Items donated include backpacks, notebooks, notebooks/binders, ruled paper, crayons, colored pencils, markers, pencils, folders, scissors, erasers, glue sticks, highlighters, rulers, dictionaries, and calculators.
