Higher Rock Wilderness Adventures

What has been lost as we have found ourselves immersed in the details and demands of our synthetic lives? What has been passed over in the frantic rush to get to the other side of wherever it is that we are now? Much.
Life is constantly being reduced and routinized into a series of sequential activities that are related, not so much by a clarifying vision as by their proximity on an already overly committed calendar. Higher Rock Wilderness Adventures is a ministry of our church that extends an invitation to busy lives.
The invitation is to leave the place of the sure and settled life, to divest from the predictable familiarity that glazes the soul, and—if only for a week—rediscover the cadence of simplicity, centeredness and a renewed spirituality that comes from time spent in the wilderness.
WHY THE WILDERNESS?
To form our identities, to face our weaknesses,
to confront the challenge of who we are not,
and to triumph through love, sweat, and prayers
over the obstacles of who we are.
We go to the wilderness because sometimes
a journey away can help us...
...with the journey home.
