Installation service for Rev. Hardy H. Kim

Sunday, November 5, 2 p.m.

Rev. Hardy H. Kim headshotYou’ve most likely heard that Hardy is going to be “installed” as our new pastor. It’s so important for the whole community, that session has approved this is the only worship service taking place at Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church that day. During a special portion of this service the whole Presbytery—represented by the moderator, Elder Chris Hasegawa, and other pastors and elders from around the area—will officially recognize the pastoral relationship between Hardy and our congregation. There will also be a full celebration of communion and the wonderful gifts of music, as they are brought to us by the musicians of the three different worship teams at SVPC. So, this will be a longer service (about 90 minutes); but through it all we’ll be reminded of our special call to serve God in the world.

We hope that you’ll be a part of this special time of affirming our shared commitments to God—especially because of some of the exciting and inspiring messages that are being brought to us from across the country and around the world. Rev. Mary Paik (Hardy’s former pastor) and Rev. Dwight K. Morita (once a member of SVPC himself) are working together to deliver the charge—words of instruction and encouragement—to the pastor, Hardy. Rev. Laura Mariko Cheifetz (Deputy Director of Systems and Sustainability at the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum) and Jessica Vazquez Torres (National Program Manager at Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training) will have a special charge to the congregation that is sure to energize and challenge us all. Finally, we’re especially eager for you to hear the word preached this day as Hardy’s friend and mentor, Rev. Dr. Bill Shaw (Director of the 174 Trust in Belfast, Northern Ireland), brings us a message of hope from a place that was critically important in Hardy’s call to ministry.

Come, be a part of celebrating this joyous moment in the life of our community, and help us affirm the blessings of relationship that God has granted us in our ministry together. And make sure to stay for refreshments and fun at the wonderful reception that will take place in the Phoenix Center Gym, lovingly prepared by the Worship & Hospitality Ministry Team, with the support of many members of staff.

Please note that there will be no other worship services on this date.
