MEET OUR PROGRAM STAFF
Our Program Staff consists of our Pastors, Director of Family Ministries, Director of Youth Ministry, Church Administrator, and Director of Communications. They guide the ministry of all the members with creativity, imagination, and laughter and they are dedicated to reaching beyond these walls to our community with God's message of love and grace.
Rev. Debbie Whaley
Debbie joined our staff in March 2015. She will help to guide, nurture, and inspire Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church during our journey for a new pastor. Debbie’s primary focus will be working closely with the Ministry Renewal Team on actively engaging and connecting with the program staff, ministry areas, session, congregation, and individuals within the congregation and community to reflect and renew a faithful, shared vision of our Ministry; as well as preaching, planning, and providing a presence during our worship. Debbie has worked with regional and national groups around issues of conflict, vision casting, and leadership transition. She fosters a team approach to ministry that wholeheartedly embodies and embraces our vision of being “Rooted in Christ, Reaching Out in Love!”
Rev. Karin KENNEDY Hejmanowski
Karin joined our staff in 2007 with a passion for living out the values of the Kingdom of God in all aspects of life. Karin's areas of responsibility are in Nurture and Mission & Outreach. She brings a concern for justice and a commitment to the marginalized and the poor to all that she does, melding these concerns with a contemplative approach to faith. Having lived in Cambodia and Kenya, Karin enjoys intercultural experiences, trying new things, and dreaming of travel. Karin and her husband, Ken, have two young children who are full of energy and ensure that there is never a dull moment in life!
Ginna has been very involved in the life of our congregation as a volunteer. She has served in the Children's and Youth Ministry Areas as an elder and as a parent. She has participated on the Intersections Music Team since its formation. In 1999 she came on staff as the Hospitality Coordinator, and in May 2001 she became the full-time Office Manager. In 2010 with the retirement of the former church administrator and Tavie Armfield joining the staff as Comptroller, Ginna shifted to become the Church Administrator. Ginna brings to her job strong skills of communication and organization, as well as a wonderful sense of humor.
Director of Family Ministries
Carol's love for working with children stems back to her days as a preschool teacher. More recently she has been on staff at Sunnyvale Presbyterian as Associate Director of Children's Ministry, and before that in the Children's Department at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle. In 2009 she was named Director of Children's Ministry. As the church continues to seek ways to support and minister to families, Carol became the Director of Family Ministries in 2016, which includes supporting Youth Ministry and directing Children’s Ministries. Her passion is to develop and implement programs that demonstrate the love and grace of Jesus Christ to all children, youth, and their families and for deepened relationships to be formed in this community.
Director of Youth Ministry
Paul joined our staff in 2016. Paul has been working with students for 10 years, in the church and on school campuses. He began ministry with Youth for Christ and Campus Life going to schools at lunch to support clubs, hanging out with students, and volunteering at schools. While doing this, Paul completed his BA in Bible and Theology at William Jessup University and his MA in Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary. The most notable of his academic experiences was studying the book of Romans in Rome and the book of Corinthians in the Greek Islands. He is committed to leading through example, inviting teens from all spiritual journeys, challenging in discipleship, and to being humble to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Paul and his wife Jessica enjoy great food, great friends, and trips to Chicago.
Director of Communications & Worship Tech
Suzanne, a longtime active member of Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church, worked more than 20 years in the software field. The Heartworks spiritual gifts discovery class at Sunnyvale Presbyterian helped Suzanne identify and affirm her spiritual gifts and passions -- Helps and Administration linked with a love of organization! All these experiences led to her joining the staff in May 2005 as Director of Lay Ministry. Suzanne has had opportunities to observe how God is continually refining spiritual gifts, interests, and skills among the people of this congregation, herself included. The emergence of church communication in today’s technology driven world intersected with Suzanne’s technology background and attention to detail skill set which led to a refinement of her position as Director of Communications in 2010.
