More Than We DeserveMore Than We Deserve
Rev. Hardy H. Kim

Theologically, the hymn is a liturgical and unrestrained yielding of self and community to God. It is a disinterested, uncalculating ceding of life over to its pioneer and perfecter (Hebrews 12:2). It is an act of self-abandonment that embodies the first answer of the Westminster Catechism: "The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever." The hymn is the way in which the faith community does its glorifying and enjoying in that specific destiny, as a foretaste of what is promised.
